Abstract
Youth unemployment, especially educated youth unemployment, is one of the most significant risks that have disruptive outcomes on economic and social life of individuals. High level educated youth unemployment is a persistent problem of the Turkish economy. Turkish statistics are far above when compared to OECD average. Over the past twenty years, the average unemployment rate among educated youth reached 30.5 percent. Education plays a critical role in enhancing employment opportunities for young people. But the high rates of unemployment among educated young people show that the labour market is not creating sufficient job opportunities. This study aims to determine the circumstance of educated youth unemployment in Türkiye by examining the Türkiye Statistic Institution data. It can be said that the fundamentals of the educated youth unemployment lies in the mismatch between education system and the needs of the labour market. The alignment between the expectations of the employers and the qualifications provided by the education system has vital importance to ensure optimum resource allocation.
